Eating Disorder Treatment
I treat most eating disorder diagnoses, disordered eating, and body image struggles. Diagnoses include anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, other specified feeding or eating disorder, and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder.
Individual Therapy
In eating disorder treatment we will initially focus on increased understanding of your experience and yourself. Each session will be tailored to you individually and what your unique needs are. We will address issues such as restoring your relationship with food, improving body image, managing underlying emotional issues, and developing healthier coping skills. Throughout your therapy we will check in on progress towards your goals and whether or not your needs in therapy are being met.
Present focused, changed oriented, behavioral modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT-E) are utilized in eating disorder individual therapy.
Enhanced Cognitive Behavior therapy (CBT-E) is an evidence-based treatment for eating disorders consisting of 4 stages of treatment. CBT-E involves stabilizing eating patterns, weight restoration (if needed), self-monitoring, and addressing behaviors. Simultaneously, there is a strong emphasis on emotional processing and stability.
Family Based Treatment (FBT)
Family-Based Treatment (FBT) is the most effective treatment for children and adolescents struggling with eating disorders and is the best alternative to residential care. FBT is an evidence-based approach that actively involves the family in the recovery process. By empowering parents to take an active role in their child's treatment, FBT helps restore healthy eating patterns and address underlying family dynamics.
Through parent coaching, families learn how to support their child in the home environment, providing a consistent and nurturing approach to recovery. This collaborative process fosters communication, strengthens family support systems, and promotes long-term recovery. Together, we will create a customized treatment plan that supports your child's healing, with a focus on both their emotional and physical well-being.
Meal Support
Meal support involves the co-experience of eating together so that reactions can be addressed and processed in real time. Together we work to understand the emotional experience and challenges connected with nourishment including food anxiety, hunger and satiety cues, and behaviors used during a meal.
